IPL-11 has finally come to an end after seven weeks of non-stop cricketing action. At the end, the so called “old fox” Chennai Super Kings “made the straight furrow”. They returned after a 2-year ban and became the champion for the 3rd time in a majestic way. But the “fairytale comeback” was not easy.
Many people trolled and criticised the CSK franchise when they bought maximum number of senior players(age of 30+) in the auction. With 36 years old captain “Thala” MS DHONI , they had 9 players who were 30 or more years old. So, everyone were curious to see how they perform in the tournament. And they proved everyone wrong, qualified for the playoffs being the 2nd in the table, reached the final first after defeating SRH, and won the trophy by defeating them again. The best bowling side of IPL-11(SRH) failed to beat the lions of Chennai even after 4 meetings, the most number of times two teams can meet in the tournament. This is a grand success for the super kings where the senior players proved to be the match-winner for them.
When MS was asked about buying the senior players and the key to success for them, he said, “It doesn’t matter who was born in which year, you have to be fit and agile. At the same time, we knew the shortcomings and had to accept areas that we won’t be brilliant in. If I’m pushing Watson to stop a single, there’s a good chance he would be injured. You don’t want Watson or Bravo injured. So, managing them well was the key. But yes, age is just a number for me.”
While talking about Rayadu, the highest run scorer for them, he said,”Rayadu is 33, but he covers good ground. Even if he plays a few games where he’s spent a lot of time on the field, he isn’t gonna turn up and say ‘I’m stiff’. It’s fitness which matters.”
The win brought smile on the faces of CSK fans as well as MSD fans. That’s his last game as captain this year and a perfect finish again. Captain cool is having some good times .
